This jet-black wooden church stands on a lava field with sweeping views—often with Snæfellsjökull in the background on clear days. Minimalist, dramatic, and incredibly photogenic.

Arnarstapi Coastline
Stroll an easy clifftop path past sea arches, blowholes, and stacked basalt. Birdlife is abundant in season, and the views toward the Atlantic are spectacular.

Lóndrangar Basalt Cliffs
Striking twin basalt plugs rising from bird-filled cliffs. Short trails from the parking area lead to safe viewpoints over the surf.

Djúpalónssandur Beach
A black-pebble cove with the famous fishermen’s lifting stones and rusted remains of a shipwreck. Safety first: powerful sneaker waves are common—stay well back from the water and keep to marked paths.

Saxhóll Crater
Climb the metal staircase to the rim of this red scoria crater for panoramic views across lava fields toward Snæfellsjökull. A quick, rewarding stop.

Kirkjufell Mountain and Waterfall
Iceland’s most photographed peak rises above Grundarfjörður. Follow the short trail to Kirkjufellsfoss for the classic shot of the falls framing the cone-shaped mountain; use designated parking and paths only.
